How to Render Lard

Updated: Jul 26, 2018

Lard can actually be good for you... WHAT? Yes, I said it. Lard made out of the fat of pasture-raised pigs is one of the best all-natural cooking staples you must have in your kitchen. Why? Because it's a completely natural product, making it better than any oil or spray you cooking with each day. The best part is – it's so easy to make. Let me show you how...

Step 1: Slice 4-5 lbs. of FROZEN pork fat into small cubes.

STEP 2: Place cubes in your crockpot and add 1/4 cup of water.

  • Let the fat cook on LOW for several hours, stirring frequently. You'll want to see the cracklins rise to the top and all of the liquid fat will be underneath.

  • Drain using a cheese cloth and store in mason jars.

  • If you enjoy cracklins, make sure to save them and season with a dash of sea salt!

STEP 5: ENJOY! You can use lard for anything from baking a delicious pie crust to frying an egg.
